June dinner: blue and yellow

We had a special addition to the month’s dinner. A few weeks ago, we signed up for a local CSF. What is a CSF? Well, it’s kind of like a CSA, or “community-supported argiculture,” where you sign up with a local farm and get a weekly share of their produce. This one is “community supported fishing.” For two months, we get a weekly share of the fresh catch off a local fishing boat. It’s a new co-operative that just started operating, so we got in on the ground floor. Last week we got a pound of yellowtail flounder which we brought home and cooked up for fish tacos, and that was some of the best fish I have ever eaten. This week we got a pound of monkfish tails which went into the special dinner and was equally delicious. The CSF is based in New Hampshire, so it’s a bit of a drive to get there and back, but the quality of the fresh fish is amazing and we’re very happy to be supporting local fishermen.

So, this month has blue again, which is tough. It’s still really really hard to come up with blue foods, which made this month’s dinner mostly yellow (but still yummy).

For an appetizer, I made a white gazpacho flavored and colored with saffron. It was a nice cool start to the meal.

The main course was a sweet yellow curry with monkfish. The curry was made with yellow peppers, pineapple, and coconut milk, and served on saffron basmati rice.

For dessert I made blueberry sorbet. It was very simple, but very good.
