Cold wet stuff

Last Friday morning we woke up to discover that the first snow of the season had fallen during the night, just enough to make a white dusting on the back yard like powdered sugar on a cake.

On Saturday we headed up to Maine to join my folks in making cider. My aunt and uncle and some old family friends also showed up and we had a lovely afternoon of washing buckets full of apples, grinding them up, pressing the juice out, and ladling it all into bottles. Afterwards we sat down to enjoy a potluck dinner and good company.

After spending the night in Maine, we came back to Georgetown on Sunday morning. As we were heading south we drove into a rainstorm that over the course of the afternoon veered into sleet, slush, and heavy wet snow.

In other cold news, late last week I finally got our upright freezer in the basement set up and running, so we had a place to store several jugs of cider when we got home from Maine.
