Wild fall weather

Yesterday started gray and threatening. Shortly after I arrived at campus there was a tremendous crash of thunder and a sudden downpour of rain. Five minutes later, the sun came out and the clouds broke up. I gather the stormy weather lasted longer in Georgetown. As I was driving home up Heather Road, I had to stop and pull a fallen tree limb out of the road. Today I plan to take a stroll in our woods and see if we have any fallen wood back there that can be added to the firewood pile.

The fall colors are coming in unevenly on the trees. Some are still green, others have turned bright red and orange, while a few are dropping their leaves already. Much of the ground in Georgetown is low and wet and in those places the trees turned first. My drive to work is getting to be quite colorful.
